In order to drive our work on the Framingham Public Schools Elementary School Assessment Calendar, the elementary-literacy-specialist team* believes that:

  • Assessments inform instruction.
  • It’s important to have a variety of assessments -- including criterion and norm-referenced tests.
  • Assessments provide information on student growth and student performance levels.
  • Students should be assessed in multiple ways but student learning time, teacher teaching time, building resource time, and student profile should be taken into account.
  • The FPS Assessment Calendar includes formative common assessments and benchmark common assessments.
  • Daily classwork and teacher observations serve as formative classroom assessments for learning and must be included in a full assessment protocol.
  • Assessment data also serves as a tool for teacher reflection.
